The spectacular Gun Hill is among the most famous tourist attractions of Mussoorie. It is the second highest peak in the region after Lal Tibba. There is an interesting history that backs the popularity of the Gun Hill. It is said that from this hilltop, the British used to fire a canon every afternoon to help the natives know the time.
Perched 400 ft above the Mall, this enthralling place of tourist interest can be reached through a cable car ropeway. This peak offers stunning views of snow-clad Himalayan ranges namely Srikantha, Bandarpunch, Pithwara and Gangotri. Besides, the splendid view of Mussoorie town and Doon Valley would leave you completely spellbound. The point has many shops, restaurants and stalls where one can indulge in games like balloon shooting and hoopla. Gun Hill is one of the popular tourist attractions of Mussoorie, possessing historical significance dating back to pre-independence. It is believed that a canon was fired from the place at a fixed time on every afternoon. This firing at the hill provided an idea of time to the local residents of the destination and they adjusted their watches accordingly.
Situated at a height of 400 ft above The Mall, the location presently houses a water reservoir of the destination. Tourists can witness snow capped peaks of Himalayas and The Mall on either side of the place. Gun Hill can be easily reached by taking a ropeway ride, which is operated frequently for transfer of passengers. In addition to this, tourists can also cover a path from The Mall to reach the location by foot.

Happy Valley

Happy Valley is an area situated within the hill station of Mussoorie in Dehradun district, Uttarakhand, India.

Happy Valley is near the Indian Administrative Services Academy - Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration. Nestled in this valley is a Tibetan Monastery with a clear view of Hathipaon.Happy Valley is located west of Mussoorie’s Dalai Hill from where the mountain ranges of Jaunpur and Nag-Tibba are visible.

History

In 18 October 1929 Mahatma Gandhi addressed the European municipal councillors at Mussoorie. At that time he stayed at Birla House in Happy Valley.One of the landmark events in the history of the Tibetan government in exile in India happened in April 1959 when a young Dalai Lama arrived at Happy Valley.In April 1960, he left Happy Valley for another hill town - Dharamsala in Himachal Pradeshwith an entourage of eighty officials of the Tibetan government in exile.Later, this government-in-exile moved to Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh leaving behind at Happy Valley, a community of Tibetans who have integrated with the life and culture of Mussoorie, but had built a Buddhist Temple and Tibetan-style homes. As of 2016, Happy Valley still was home to about 5000 Tibetan refugees.
The Happy Valley was the first home of the 14th Dalai Lama in India who had sought refuge after the invasion of the Chinese army in Tibet. Many followers of Dalai Lama who had also taken refuge in the Happy Valley have made it their permanent home.
At present, there is a monastery there that spreads the divine message of Buddhism. There is a school too where the students are taught to maintain their Tibetan culture alongside a thorough educational experience.
On 10th December, the residents of the Happy Valley gather together to commemorate the acceptance of Nobel Peace Prize of the Dalai Lama. The tiny and gorgeous Happy Valley indulges in fun and frolic to mark this grand annual celebration.

Happy Valley has an Indian Administrative Service Academy - The Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration. it also has Tibetan Temples and a Municipal Garden. The area of the valley leads to the Cloud’s End- a place where the geographical borders of Mussoorie end. The Hathipaon Park Estate is also there. From Happy Valley one can see the whole of Mussoorie with George Everest's house on one side and the Himalayan ranges on the other.

Happy Valley is famous for housing IAS Academy, Tibetan temples and the Municipal Garden. The area of the valley lies on the western side of Library Point and leads to the Cloud’s End, a place where geographical borders of Mussoorie end.The place is also famous for its gardens, estates and temples. Apart from this, tourists can also take walk to the Kala School from Happy Valley, which leads to Hathipaon Park Estate.

Paragliding and Trekking

One of the most important and exciting being the famous Toad Rock - owing its name to its peculiar shape. The rock is in the form of a toad which is about to jump! If you are in the mood for some trekking, remember to wear comfortable shoes for a good grip on this giant rock. This will also help you while you are making your way to this beautiful rock. Paragliding is the most simple form to fly and all you require is a Para glider. A Para-glider is a non-motorized, foot-launched inflatable wing, which is easy to transport, launch, and land. It is constructed of rip-stop nylon or high stress polyester fabric. The pilot is clipped into a harness and is in a comfortable sitting position. The harness and the Para-glider attached by sturdy kevlar lines. The Para gliders can fly in the air for hours with the help of the glider and climb to altitudes, more than 10,000 feet high or opt for cross-country flying adventure covering vast distances.
Uttarakhand being surrounded by the high peaks of Himalayas in the north side and the plains of Terai region in the south offers a perfect way for paragliding. It stands as one of the best paragliding destinations for experienced and amateur para-gliders. Several tourists come here every year for training. They also enjoy the joyful rides of paragliding in Kumaon and Garhwal region.
There are many paragliding centers in Uttarakhand. Some of the best sites in Uttarakhand known for being paragliding sites are Rishikesh, Mussoorie, Pratap Nagar, Dayara Bugyal, Dhanaulti Ridge in Garhwal, and Naukutchiyatal in Nainital, Pithoragarh, Bedni Bugyal in Kumaon. The suitable time to enjoy paragliding in Uttarakhand is from September to May. The main equipments that are required for paragliding include the Glider Harness, Helmet, Variometer, and Reserve parachute.

Dhanaulti

Dhanaulti is a hill station 24 km from the popular hill station of Mussoorie, and 31 km from Chamba, as it is situated between the two.It is situated at an altitude of 2286m, and is known for its quiet environs amidst the alpine forests of Deodar, Rhododendron and Oak.

ECO-Park.It is the main attraction of Dhanaulti. There are two Eco-parks, "Amber" and "Dhara" about 200 m apart. It has been developed recently by the Forest Department of Uttarakhand with the help of local youth. About 60 local youth, both male and females are employed as Guides, Gardeners, Service providers, Ticket Collectors, Information Providers etc. It houses a protected patch of small forest containing Deodar Trees.There is an entry fee of Rs 25 For Adults and Rs 10 for Children.
The adventure sports facility is available for visitors in the form of walking over the flying fox and burma bridges and riding horses. There is also a facility for visitors to plant a sapling of tree species in the memory of their beloved, which is called as memory sapling plantation.
Mussoorie Forest Department is running Eco-huts for the tourists come to enjoy serene landscapes of Dhanaulti. These are built by green technology and are Eco-friendly.
With minimal human intrusion, without overloading or overwhelming your senses or expectations, Dhanaulti slowly seeps into your conscience like a long lost pleasant dream, bringing with it comfort and quiet, and giving you the much needed break from your humdrum routine life. With Chamba and Mussoorie in proximity, this little town in Uttarakhand is an offbeat destination located at a height of about 2200 meters above sea level.

Surkanda Devi Temple - 8 km (5.0 mi). From Dhanaulti, on the road towards Chamba lies the Surkanda Devi Temple, famous for its Ganga Dussehra fair in autumn. It is part of the Devi Darshan triangle, which offers trekking opportunities around Dhanaulti - Surkanda Devi, Chandrabadni and Kunjapuri.

Jwala Devi Temple

Jwaladevi Temple, ज्वालादेवी मन्दिर is located in Shaktinagar which is 119 km from Robertsganj in Sonbhadra district, Uttar Pradesh. The Jwaladevi temple is dedicated to Goddess Jwala Ji.

The Idol of the main deity is located in the Sanctum Sanctorum (central place of the temple). The old black stone idol which was in the old temple has been installed along with other deities surrounding the main idol. It is believed that people offer their tongue as offerings here after their wishes are fulfilled.The puja of the temple is being regularly performed by the priests whose family has been doing it for last 12 generations. Presently there are 12 priests involved in performing the routine puja at this temple. Jawalamukhi cave is located at a distance of 1 km from the temple. It is said that the cave had three openings earlier but presently the cave is filled with water of a spring and has only a single opening.

Jwala Devi temple is a famous shrine nearby Mussoorie. It is a cynosure for Hindu devotees and is preached by several in the state of Uttarakhand and around it. The Mall Road at Mussoorie is everything you expect from that of a hill-station. The entire Mall Road has two ends, locally known as the Library and the Picture Palace. The Mall Road also called ‘The Mall’ is the busiest shopping hub in Mussoorie. Tourists and locals flock over to the Mall to indulge their shopping appetites. The vendors here sell anything and everything ranging from apparels to electronic goods. Other items sold here include ceramic vases, Tibetan prayer wheels, brass statues, jamavar shawls, wooden boxes, handicrafts and antiques.
